In lieu of Valentines Day I began thinking about all the ‘loves’ in my life. My high school sweetheart and husband of 37 years is obviously near the top of the list. My children, grandchildren, parents, friends and family all rank close to the top too. However, there’s only ‘ONE’, who made the greatest sacrifice ever on my behalf, who deserves 1st place. His name is JESUS!

In the New Testament of the Bible Jesus is asked what is the greatest commandment? His answer, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

We find in the book of Joshua in the Old Testament a very similar statement “…love the Lord your God, walk in his ways, keep his commandments, cleave to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.” Joshua 22:5

Getting back to the title of this blog, ‘Who Has Your Heart’? For me the word ‘heart’ and ‘trust’ go hand in hand. When we give our heart (our love) to someone, we give them our trust. In friendships, marriage, and family there’s a great opportunity to love and trust. Many of you reading this have or will experience a ‘great love’ in marriage. Others will experience ‘great love’ in a friendship, with a parent, or with your child or children. However, when something happens that causes you to no longer trust that person, there’s a ache, a pain, that at times seems unbearable. Recovering from this type of pain can be challenging, and a journey we don’t want to take. These are times when we as believers go to God’s word and trust Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; don’t lean on your own  understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.” Proverbs 3:5-6

How do we do it? How can we really put ALL our trust in the Lord, not lean on our understanding of the situation and allow Him to direct our path? We do it one day and one step at a time. You wake up in the morning and your conversation with the Lord goes something like:

“You have my heart. I trust you for today. I’m not going to concern myself with tomorrow (cause it’s not even here yet). I’m not going to try and figure things out that only You Lord know the answers to. I’m going to allow You to direct my path today, and listen to your Holy Spirits leading.”

The past 20 months I’ve spent in a ‘Trust God’ season. If I’ve heard God speak these words to me once, I’ve heart it a hundred times:

“Jamie, Do You Trust Me?”

Sounds simple enough, as long as it’s not you, right! 🙂 Well, I can honestly say that in all of this trusting Him and Loving Him, He (God) has truly Won My Heart! Although I trusted Jesus as my Savior at age 17, I’m not sure he had my whole heart, but He does today. There’s a beautiful song, titled ‘Won My Heart’ and that says this so beautifully.

Today, take a moment and Step Outside Your Comfort Zone of where you are and ask yourself, “WHO HAS MY HEART?” If the answer isn’t Jesus, it can be. I believe he’s asking You today, “Do you trust me?” Will you answer YES?

Blessings and Happy Valentines Day,

Jamie B

Awesome insight with the word “Love” that’s often taken for granted as more of an emotion as opposed to an action of ” Trust”. Thanks Jaime for sharing.
